Dear scverse community, my name is Eduardo, I am a new assistant professor in computational biology at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), a new graduate-level research university in Abu Dhabi where we just opened a computational biology department.
I am putting together a graduate level course on single cell biology and bioinformatics to be taught in 2025. Because students come from a CS/engineering background the emphasis of this course will be on understanding the fundamentals of biology and applications to biological problems. For the bioinformatics part, the course will be mostly focused on using Python and the scverse ecosystem.
Since there exists no textbook-like resource for teaching single cell bioinformatics, I am currently reviewing existing resources and curating references for the course. My hope is that these lecture notes will grow into a teaching resource that others can use.
Therefore I would like to ask you: when it comes to single cell in general, and scverse in particular, what are some essays, reviews, videos, tutorials, repositories and other resources that you would find useful if you were taking a course in single cell biology and bioinformatics for the first time?
Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated, I will carefully review each one, and of course acknowledge your suggestion in the lecture notes if I incorporate them.
Additionally, I am currently hiring a postdoc. My research interests are outlined here https://munfred.com/research_talk.html, and my faculty page is here: https://mbzuai.ac.ae/study/faculty/eduardo-beltrame/. For those searching for faculty positions, the university is also hiring new faculty in computational biology: https://mbzuai.ac.ae/vacancy/open-rank-faculty-computational-biology/
If you are interested in moving to Abu Dhabi and joining MBZUAI, please feel free to email me at eduardo.beltrame@mbzuai.ac.ae and I will be happy to chat!
Thank you!
Eduardo
